Dear Cal:

I am taking this moment to thank you and to commend Colorado Hardscapes for the excellent job performed in the design and construction of the North Jeffco Park and Recreation District Apex Center aquatics deck and galleria flooring.

As you know, the Apex Center is one of the largest municipal recreation centers in the United States. It is also unique by the sheer number of different venues: 2 ice arenas, 3 pools and 2 hot tubs, 3 gymnasiums, climbing wall, teen center, youth adventure center, aerobics room and cardio vascular complex, plus much more. With over 45 separate functions and 170,000 square feet, it certainly represented a construction and architectural challenge. Yet you were able to complete your scope of the project ahead of schedule and on budget. Even more impressive, however, are all the demands that we placed upon you and all of the Colorado Hardscapes staff.

I am still impressed with our final numbers that provide some ideas of the scope of this project: 20 miles of ice rink refrigerant tubing, 100 yards of stamped “natural stone” concrete in the galleria, some of the longest pre-cast spans inn the sate, over one million linear feet of electrical wiring and an H.V.A.C. system that has to heat a pool area, cool a building, melt ice on the sidewalks, withstand the humidity of an indoor aquatic park and the dryness of two ice rinks, and over 4,000 square feet of stamped concrete for the aquatics deck!

As impressive as all of this is, when I recommend Colorado Hardscapes for future jobs it will be because of the people who work for you. In 22 years as a park and Recreation Director, I have never been exposed to a more professional, talented, and courteous staff. The Colorado Hardscapes staff was always willing to take on a new challenge. Despite the fact that as owners we constantly presented your staff with change orders, new directions and new deadlines, you and your crew always rose to the occasion and exceeded my expectations. I also found that the same level of professionalism ran very deep into your personnel ranks – from administrative support to laborers.

Our aquatics decks as well as our galleria are signature aspects of the Center. The stained, stamped concrete looks great and yet is very functional. Guests constantly comment on how representative it is of Colorado; yet for staff we love the way it endures our pedestrian flow.

Cal, perhaps the best testimony toward your firm has been since completion. Any time my staff had any problems whatsoever, you and your staff were there to assist. It is nice to build a new building that looks great and runs well; it is even nicer to build one that the sub-contracting company continues to stand behind! Perhaps the best way to summarize your company’s success with this project is to close by telling you of our success since the Center opened for business on September 25, 2000. To date, over 600,000 guests have visited our Center. We just hosted the National High School Hockey Championships and the Colorado Figure Skating Championships. We have exceeded our revenue expectations by over 160%. Further, we have been featured in U.S.A. Today, all three major local television stations, National Recreation and Parks Association national magazine, the Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News, the Today Show and was just voted the best recreation center by Westword magazine. Most important, however, are the smiles in the kids’ faces as they splash in the pool, climb the wall, sink a shot, or glide down the slide. You are improving the quality of life of these children every day, and as a result improving our community immeasurably.

I thank you for an excellent job, and anxiously await our next project together. Please do not hesitate in having potential clients call me as a reference if I can further expand upon the admiration I possess for you and your company.

Sincerely yours,
Rob Robinson
