CASE STUDY INDEX
Client Need:
Chinook Trail Elementary School in the Colorado Springs’ Cordera community wanted the exterior paving at their school to be as educational as the subject material taught in the classroom.

Solution:
Surrounding the vertical centerpiece sundial with colorful paving to coordinate the east/west equinox line and seasonal hour lines, Colorado Hardscapes’ technicians installed uncolored, four inch, Sandscape Textured concrete reinforced with wire mesh. They then stained the pavement with Honolulu Blue, Sunshine, Ashley Gray, and Soft Chamois Benjamin Moore colors to delineate the equinox and seasonal hour lines.

Results:
Technicians placed V cut joints between the colors for crack control, stained the 2-inch hour lines and the 24-foot bands at the solstice lines black, and sandblasted 12-inch numerals to complete the sun dial look. A 24-inch border around the outside edge pulled together the yin and yang sections of the pavement. The entire slab received a concrete sealer.
