CASE STUDY INDEX
Client Need:
Create a friendly sea serpent out of concrete for a performing arts center playground.

Solution:
Calvin Van Heukelem of CHI worked for five years on this feature with Mike Lee of Arvada Parks and Recreation, the Arvada Arts Department, and artist Bill Gian.

Results:
Squiggles, a 343 foot "Seasaurus" (that's a friendly sea serpent) is the main attraction at the Arvada Center for the Performing Arts' playground. Squiggles was designed by artist Bill Gian to accommodate both physically challenged and able-bodied children and includes wheel-chair accessibility, multi-textured surfaces (for the vision impaired) and different levels to climb in and around. CHI technicians constructed Squiggles out of concrete and steel. After detailed texturing and imprinting of each body-scale, Squiggles was hand-painted with bright colors by skilled technicians.
