Client Need:
For the retail development at Northfield in the Stapleton Development, multiple types of concrete paving as well as water features were needed.
Solution:
Colorado Hardscapes took advantage of the versatility of concrete to install multiple kinds of decorative paving throughout the development. CHI's experience with water features allowed us to complete two water features as well.
Results:
For the water feature near the theatre, a Sandscape Texture™ basin was poured and finished with the additive Xypex to make the concrete water proof and eliminate the need for any liner in the water feature.
The angled capstone walls for the water feature were cast in place from Styrofoam forms. Black tiles were inset in the walls at water level.
Stainless steel monoliths that house the lights and jets for the fountain are bolted to the concrete basin.
Dark integrally colored concrete with a black beauty aggregate was poured for the basin of the pop-jet water feature. The water proof additive Xypex was added to the concrete mix here as well.
The Northfield logo was then sandblasted into the concrete as it is in the paving throughout the development. The housings for the pop-jets were also poured into the concrete.
Multiple colors and finishes make up the 3000 yards of concrete poured outside of retail stores at Northfield.
Various scoring layouts and banding highlight portions around the fountain and other attractions. Three different types of control joints (hand tooled, 1/8” sawcuts and “V” cuts) were used in the paving.
Five different integral colors placed at the store front sidewalks distinguish the different shops. The Northfield logo which is used on buildings and signs throughout the development was also incorporated into the concrete.
