Client Need:
The Streets at Prairie Center wanted an upscale streetscaping theme to compliment the lively colors and pick up some of interesting textures on the retail buildings. They also needed to establish a paving palette that would flow throughout the entire project as it built out over the next several years.
Solution:
CHI was asked to be a part of the team during the design phase to help streamline and enhance the concrete material selection process. During that phase, several meetings were held at our Concrete Design Center where actual paving samples were aligned in many different configurations until the paving palette started coming together. At that point final samples with all of the different chosen colors and textures were produced for final approval by the architect and owner.
Results:
Some of the notable selections that you see are black colored Sandscape Texture™ concrete with a reflective aggregate that is used in some of the bands and the step work. A prairie colored imprinted Bomanite® concrete was used in other areas to compliment some of the stonework on the buildings. As independent areas of the project build out, you can see the correlation between the paving and the buildings and how well they work together. The 40th ACI Awards Program awarded the project an Award of Excellence in the Exterior Decorative Concrete category.
