Client Need:
Designed by graphic designers from Boulder who were doing interpretive educational features, this tree needed to be built to specification and colored and carved to look as natural as possible.
Solution:
CHI's experience with zoos and carving and coloring shotcrete allowed us to create the tree the designers envisioned.
Results:
The 22' tall x 16' diameter concrete tree has distinct bark and inner tree worm tracks, as well as fungi tree rings on the upper deck to simulate a 500-year-old Colorado tree. The inside of the tree is hollowed out for people to walk through to show life inside a tree and the top deck shows lightning strikes and other natural scars.
