Rock Artisan
Since 1964, di Giacomo Inc. in Azusa, California has produced some of the most spectacular artificial rock formations and water features. In di Giacomo’s hands a 16-foot-high cliff of artificial rock will look real – although, he insists, that’s hardly the issue: “If you can’t make a rock that looks like a rock, you shouldn’t be in the business. You need to get beyond the rock. I’m not just trying to get you to believe it is real rock. I’m trying to get you to go camping with your husband up at Yosemite and take the kids.” Philip is nothing short of an artist, an artist who believes that the purpose of art is to improve people’s lives. The magnificent landscapes of Yosemite, Kern River, and the Grand Canyon as well as the peaceful stream traversing through the mountain valley are inspirations to di Giacomo.
In 2007, di Giacomo sought out third-generation family owned Colorado Hardscapes because di Giacomo saw them and exclaimed, “Here’s a sixty year old company who care about making their work better; they are constantly asking the questions about the process, about how to improve the work.” These two companies meshed together will bring together the best rock work and concrete hardscapes in one package.
di Giacomo’s goals are to change the quality of people’s lives, “I wish I could make a rock that’s like Guernica, a rock that stops war, that stops hatred.”
