What is Grasscrete®?
Grasscrete is an excellent product for pervious concrete specifications. As a void form concrete system, Grasscrete allows water to pass through the concrete slab and into the gravel sub-base, meeting requirements for stormwater detention, first flush filtration systems, and for ground water re-charge. Grasscrete meets requirements for strength and durability that have been difficult to achieve with traditional pervious concrete.
Test reports indicate the following about Grasscrete:
Load Test: 66,000 lb.
Grumman Fire Truck: ladder extended 100 ft. at 90 degrees with 800 lbs. in basket and outriggers extended. Soil was fully saturated.
Equivalent load on outriggers: 208,700 lbs.
Maximum deflection: .065 inches Permeability Test: Different soils and rainfall were tested, percolation through Grasscrete is about equal to control sample with no concrete.
Grasscrete offers an added bonus in today’s “green” environment. It can utilize a self-consolidating concrete made with up to 85% recycled materials. The most recent version of Grasscrete formers are made of paper pulp molded to create the desired void structure. After the installation, the pulp formers are fully biodegradable.
