Client Need:
The ceilings and walls in this new construction are pre-cast concrete slabs, therefore adding concrete on the floor was an aesthetic challenge. Working directly with Saunders Construction, a plan was devised on what finish would be most appropriate to correlate with the other concrete, but to make it stand out.
Solution: Polished interior flooring and form-place finish on the exterior sidewalks, entry-pad, and steps was used. The exterior finish was ground and sandblasted to give a similar look to the interior polished floor, but to have a courser feel for slip-resistance.
Results: This new building is located directly west of the Denver Art Museum. The correlation between the interior and exterior concrete was completed successfully and the polished flooring inside was the appropriate look that the designer was looking for.
