North Jeffco Apex Center
April 15, 2001
The new recreation center in a large metro-Denver parks and recreation district made good use of Bomanite's textures to tie the paving into the center's overarching theme of Colorado's mining heritage. The 168,500 square feet facility sits on a 1.3-acre site and includes two ice-skating rinks, a climbing wall, and 23,000 square feet of aquatic features.

The pool deck was stamped with Small Random Slate pattern and then stained with a multi-colored Patene Artectura system, giving it a very distinct appearance and tying the paving in well with the simulated rock features of the pool areas. Grouting all 12,052 sq. ft of pattern lines gave the desired natural stone look.

The upper level 300' corridor created a scheduling problem for the general contractor since several other subcontractors needed to run scissors lifts and forklifts in the corridor throughout the construction of this facility and doing so on a finished floor surface was undesirable. The ½" stamped overlay system allowed the general contractor to pour a sub slab that met the structural requirements and created a surface for the lifts to run on.

Colorado Hardscapes came in 10 days before the owner moved in. We epoxy-injected all cracks, bead blasted the floor, and applied ½" stamped overlay to the 5,970 square feet corridor base with no damage to the finished building. The fields were stamped with the Small Random Slate pattern, while the bands were poured with a different color and stamp, adding to the complexity of the job.
