Denver Union Station
Back in September of 2008, Kiewit brought Colorado Hardscapes in to discuss with the design team about paving and water feature options. From there, the relationship between Kiewit, Denver Union Station, and Colorado Hardscapes began. The client wanted a main water feature in front of the historic Union Station building to re-activate the plaza space. Colorado Hardscapes gave initial budgets at those early phases.
In 2011, Kiewit contracted with Colorado Hardscapes to place flat concrete in the bus barn to the standards required for the terrazzo installer. Although most of the concrete Colorado Hardscape placed underground will never be seen, it met the levelness and flatness requirements. Then in 2012, Kiewit added the water feature in the main plaza to Colorado Hardscapes’ scope.
As a result, the terrazzo installer in the bus barn had a perfect canvas on which they could install the terrazzo paving, and the historic building itself was graced with a new water feature which re-activates the plaza space. In 2014, both areas welcome the new activity and crowds in this revitalization effort.
