The lobby for the Dairy Block building, design by Shears Adkins Rockmore, called for a dark, matte finish flooring. Modena, also known as cementitious terrazzo, created that premium finish. To achieve the Matte finish itself grinding stopped at 200 grit and sealed with a penetrating sealer. Zinc divider strips created the pattern on the floor. The depth of the grind exposed the coarse aggregate in the mix. The final result and appearance of Dairy Block thrilled the designer. As a result, we have had two other designers specify the same product/color/finish.
Additionally in the exterior at all the alley entrances we completed the “Welcome Mats” by sandblasting the concrete with the word welcome in multiple different languages.
