In 2023, Denver Zoo entrusted us with taking part in the construction of the new Flamingo Habitat. Our task was to install several specialized pools, from their mechanical system to their custom rockwork.
The project involved a great deal of collaboration with us, Denver Zoo, and Vertix Builders to ensure the final product prioritized safety, enrichment, and aesthetic value. Initially, Colorado Hardscapes provided several rockwork samples to Denver Zoo to select something with a non-slip texture in addition to a natural look.
Our total scope of work includes an indoor holding pool, an ambassador pool, two dump and fill pools, and a main pool with an area of 950 SF. We outfitted each pool with high-performing sump, inlet, and skimming boxes. The mechanical system includes multi-media filters for excellent water filtration and numerous valves for ease of maintenance.
Nothing about the Flamingo Habitat was off-the-shelf and required an involved team of dedicated professionals. With the amount of time and effort gone into this project, from all parties, we believe the final product is nothing short of incredible.
