Colorado Hardscapes proudly served as the Design-Build contractor at Paul Derda Recreation Center in Broomfield, CO. This initiative was primarily focused on replacing the center’s aging rockwork, a task that necessitated both aesthetic enhancement and functional upgrades.
Our responsibilities were extensive, including:
- Collaborating with MB BIM Solutions for 3-D and structural design.
- Creating new architectural designs, courtesy of Colorado Hardscapes.
- Commissioning Total Welding for structural steel fabrication and onsite installation.
- Engaging Berich Masonry for CMU wall construction.
- Utilizing scaffolding provided by WACO for elevated tasks.
- Dismantling the existing rock structure.
- Forming and installing new rock features.
- Painting the rockwork and adding finishing touches.
- Installing new Life Floor around the pool.
During the project, we encountered four significant challenges:
- Rust Prevention: Given the rockwork’s proximity to water, we opted for galvanized rebar and structural steel, complemented with a Tnemec coating.
- Amenity Preservation: Working around and protecting existing slides and the pool without damaging them.
- Dust Mitigation: All of our work was done indoors, increasing the risk of breathing in dust. Our team had to be especially concerned about ventilation and dust mitigation throughout the process.
- Adherence to Schedule: Recognizing the pool’s significance to the recreation center, we adhered to a stringent timeline. The pool officially re-opened in mid-March 2024, allowing surrounding communities to experience the updated pool over spring break.
Through innovative solutions and dedicated teamwork, we successfully addressed these challenges. We extend our gratitude to every individual and partner involved in the revitalization of the Paul Derda Recreation Center. Together, we have reimagined this space as a vibrant and welcoming destination for the surrounding communities.
