Colorado Hardscapes delivered high-performance architectural concrete for the new USAFA Hosmer Visitor Center, contributing to a project defined by innovation, precision, and collaboration.
We introduced Bomanite Revealed for the 21” white bands, aligning with the landscape vision shaped by the design team. After our success at the Air Gardens, the Academy requested Revealed again to maintain a consistent campus aesthetic.
We installed approximately 18,000 sq. ft. of decorative flatwork:
- 13,000 sq. ft. of exposed aggregate field paving in Academy Brown, featuring specialty rock sourced from Wyoming.
- 5,000 sq. ft. of Revealed white banding.
- All concrete poured at 6” thickness, following a 7’ layout module per AFA design standards
When specialty rock delays occurred, we adjusted our sequence and poured the bands before the fields. Trade schedule setbacks pushed the start into winter, but we adapted. Over three days, we placed 166 yards of concrete, completing the south plaza on time and to standard.
DPR Construction selected Colorado Hardscapes for our extensive experience with USAFA projects, including the Air Gardens, CCLD, FCA, and Vandenberg Hall. Our familiarity with Academy specifications and our ability to coordinate on active campus sites made us a strong addition to the project team.
We’re proud to support the Academy’s vision through quality concrete craftsmanship and collaborative problem-solving at the USAFA Hosmer Visitor Center.
