In the fall of 2021, Colorado Hardscapes partnered up with Mortenson and Dig Studio to take on an extensive hardscaping project at the Central Park Station Plaza. The project included the installation of three large decorative planter benches, 20,000 sq. ft. of plaza paving, 14,000 sq. ft. of street paving, curb and gutter, and 8,000 sq. ft. of pavers (installed by Creative Hardscapes).
In the first phase of the project, we purchased and placed three large precast bench planters from QCP Corp. Each planter consisted of 21 unique pieces. Colorado Hardscapes poured the caissons and then contracted Gallegos to set the pieces in place.
Moving on to the second phase of the project, we managed the subcontractor, CASI to scarify and prep the road. Unfortunately, cold and wet weather called for the project to be postponed until spring of 2023.
Once the weather was conducive for concrete work, we moved forth with the project. The next phase included installing the curb and gutter as well as kickstarting work on the plaza. The paving was made up of 8′ diagonal bands that were poured in alternating colors with a Sandscape finish. For this project, the team used white oxide to achieve a lighter integral color called Ceramic. Other plaza colors include Capitol Hill and Dark Gray.
The final phase of the project was the street paving which had to align with the plaza paving. Colorado Hardscapes holds the Central Park Station Plaza in high esteem as this street might be one of the most decorative and complex streets within the City of Denver.
